In 2011, nine friends and I who were like-minded people found a volunteering group called “Can Do Team” in Thungkhru district of Bangkok, Thailand. We have been working with local people in Chumchon so far. We have conducted many workshops and activities.
For example, skill development workshop for youth to enable them to become community leaders, “IT can do” where we trained the elderly in using smart phones which helped them to connect with other community members as well as organized the family activities with other volunteers and local government office. We also organized and participated in several community activities such as the events for National Children’s day, Songkran festival and Loy Krathong festival.
Two years back we started “Café Can Do” a small restaurant to provide food, board game community, co-working space as well as support our volunteering activities.
Now Happy Hub is an offshoot of “Café Can Do”. This aims to improve the financial situations with marginalized who reside in urban area through organizing the economic empowerment activities. We also mobilize volunteers and utilize resources to solve the problems altogether. We still collaborate with Café Can Do to conduct workshops, training programs and meetings.
Happy Hub brings together the two target groups; the one who needs help and the one which is ready to help and support others. We do the research and data collection to know and understand their actual needs under different categories. For instance, business skills for new entrepreneurs, health care for elderly as well as career guidance and leadership for youth. Volunteers, based on their knowledge, skill levels and time availability, can choose to work in one or more areas.
